I thought I'd share with you today that we've been eating flowers for the last few days. Not any kind of flowers, we picked wild pink garlic flowers in nature yesterday & last Sunday, at two different places, and have delected ourselves with their delicious & delicate taste. Alium roseum (pink garlic) is in full bloom right now in the garrigue, so it is now or never for picking them & enjoying them !
Aren't they just so pretty ? Straight on their solid stem, you can easily spot them ! Beware not to pick any flower, thinking they are wild garlic flowers ! Be sure to make a research in books about local flora (that's what I did for this flower), before eating any flower, NOT all of them are edible !
Aren't they gorgeous sprinkled in my plate ? I had them with rice last Sunday, and today with (organic) cherry tomatoes, mozzarella & homegrown basil. It was super tasty ! If you wonder if it smells or tastes like garlic, well, flowers smell like flowers, not like garlic, but once you've removed them from the stem, they smell & taste like garlic, but not as strong as raw garlic. It just adds a little extra something, pretty AND delicious !
Now let me wish you a tasteful & colorful weekend ahead ! Take care of yourself !
