I have worked these last couple of days on a couple of items that made their way to the SHOP this morning. I am very much inspired (and totally into it) by Japan, and these will speak for themselves. I made a pencil case, and a Mini Crafter's Kit (a small zipped pouch, a small needlebook, a small walnut shell pincushion), very handy when you travel.
Sakana : 魚 : Fish
I used a genuine Japanese indigo fabric (dotty wave print), an Indian hand carved wooden textile printing block (bought in Victoria & Albert museum in London in 2010), and red, textile ink. Lining was handstamped with the same block. Two fishes were appliquéed on the front of the pencil case, and one on the small zipped pouch. Zip pullers were made with waxed cotton cord & the same fabric.
These were made with lots of love & care for the details. A bunch of hand sewing too, and it reacquainted me with the slow pace of hand sewing, which is very much in synch with the spirit of Japanese culture.
