Advent calendar 2016 - day 12, 13, 14, 15 & 16

Oops, this week litterally slipped away ! Here's a recap of these last five days !

Day 12 (Monday), school day : a chocolate covered gingerbread man !

Day 13 (Tuesday), aslo a school day : a chocolate lollipop ...

Day 14 (Wednesday, off school, but we went to the hairdresser's & were away from home half of the day) : Make-a-Flake on the computer : you can virtually cut paper snowflakes ! It's suepr fun, no matter the age (very young or really old LOL), and is a perfect activity on a rainy/snowy/sick day. You can find the link { here }.

Day 15 (Thursday), also a school day : a mini chocolate bar (hey, who said we were addcited ?! I heard you !!!! LOL)

Day 16 (today, Friday), again a school day, but school holiday just started tonight ! So it was "making bagel pizzas" for diner ! Obviously we didn't make the bagels themselves. Simply toasted, then a little tomatoe sauce (with basil), little dices of mozzarella, dried herbs, and shredded Swiss cheese. Then in the over for 10mn.

Here are some more photos for you ...

First, Pitou in his double decker basket, by the Christmas tree.

Then a little corner on our table. The folded book tree was made during a past Advent Calendar (last year or the year before), the crochet covered stone was made by Margie, and the little brass fawn was gifted by my friend Nanou.

Wishing you a lovely weekend ahead ! Thanks for your visit !

Advent calendar 2016 - day 9, 10 and 11

Activity on day 9 of our Advent Calendar was making a little winter scene with coarse salt & store bought little characters, and adding twigs from a plant in the garden to make little tree. We chose stems of lavender, which funnily look like palm trees (that we have in our garden too).

Activity on day 10 was "Snowball Toss". I used a white fabric I had in my stash, and corn that was beyond its "best use before" date ... and I made four white bean bags, supposedly looking like snowballs. My eldest didn't even touch them, maybe because my youngest couldn't stop playing with them (with me) ! He's 12 but still loves these kinds of games. We threw the bean bags at each other in a play/fight kind of way, he loved it ! (and so did I !) It was like an actual snowball fight LOL

Activity on day 11 (today) was baking pop tarts. Not the industrial crappy kind. The homebaked from scratch, with organic ingredients exclusively. We used strawberry jam, but we can't wait to use different kinds of fillings ! It was our first time baking them, and even though it kind of takes much time for making them (preparing the dough beforehand), we'll be making more !

They were truly delicious & there are many left for breakfast tomorrow, yay !!

Thank you for stopping by. I hope you are doing fine & having a lovely December.

Advent calendar 2016 - day 7 and 8

Day 7 in our Advent Calendar was painting christmas baubles on the bay windows with chalk markers ! The result is great, it's a joy to see it all when we come home, or when we're inside !

it is trickier than it looks, kuddos to those who paint on windows for a living !

it is trickier than it looks, kuddos to those who paint on windows for a living !

It was not easy taking a proper photo by night, but well, you get the idea ! Painting on windows with such markers can be a great rainy day activity, just saying ...

Despite this serious look, Pitou is very happy, living "half & half" ... half indoors & half outdoors ...

Today's (day 8) activity was not an activity, since it was a school day, so the boys got a chocolate treat, which I forgot to take a proper photo of ... oops. My excuse is that we've had the plumber (well, thank goodness he's one of my hubby's cousins !) installing a new toilet in the bathroom, drilling the floor etc ... it's been a war scene all day long, between the awful (though necessary !) noise, the dust, and the dirt of the floors everywhere but in the bedrooms ! He's also installed a new faucet, and tomorrow will change the showerpipe. Both faucet & showerpipe that came with the house were very unpractical, ugly & not functionning so well. It was pretty much necessary to change them. Next year we'll try to get more light in this tiny & dark room with poor lights.

Anyway, too much details probably. See you soon !

Advent calendar 2016 - day 3 and 4

Day 3 of our advent calendar was painting a snowman face on a porcelain mug. It was fun & the boys will be able to use it all month long, which is a bonus ! I found the inspiration on Pinterest.

Above, my eldest (14) painting stripes on the handle. Below, my youngest (12) ... well, doing the same !

Sorry I didn't remember to take a proper photo of the mugs once they were "baked" (4 hours drying then 35mn in the oven) ... I will add it if I remember !

Today's activity (day 4) was baking mini doughnuts (not fried, but baked). It was fun too, we had a couple of them as a snack today, and will have the rest for breakfast tomorrow morning (again, bonus !)

The Advent Calendar activities are going along nicely & everyone seems happy so I'm extra happy about it !

Wishing you all a wonderful start of your week tomorrow !

Advent Calendar 2016 - day 1 and 2

Well, the time has come for our yearly Advent Calendar, that I'm constantly adaptating to my sons' ages. They're now 12 & 14, and I'm oh so happy that they're still willing to do this with/for their mama.

It started yesterday (day 1), and since it was a school day (on school days I don't plan an activity by lack, of time) they got a treat : milk chocolates I had homemade. And today, also a school day (day 2) they're getting a gingerbread man for after school snack !

Also by lack of time, I couldn't had a blog post done with the full list of the 24 days of our calendar, I'm sorry. I hope you understand.

I'll be posting at the end of the weekend for the next two activities. Have a wonderful weekend ahead, thanks a lot for visiting !

to the rescue

On Sunday morning, after having breakfast, I went back to bed for a little relaxing. Hubby was away but the boys were home with me. I heard a bang, which I first thought was my youngest playing with a soft (fabric) ball, and that it had hit the bay window. The second after I realized it was a bit too hard a sound for being that soft ball, so I got up & checked the three bay windows. Outisde of one, was lying on the ground, face down, a little bird. I was so surprised, I first didn't recognize which kind of bird it was. Right away I gave a call to hubby for a brilliant idea of what to do immediately, and he told me to wear gloves, grab him/her, and put him/her on a high surface (a wall or something) and we decided that I put it on the roof of the garden shed.

I put my garden gloves & went back to the bay window. I suddenly realized it was a poor little robin who was lying on the ground next to me. My goodness, my heart went into pieces. I delicately grabbed him/her, called my eldest for helping me set the ladder because I was clearly too short for reaching the roof of the garden shed ! He helped me, and I softly laid him/her upon the roof. That spot of the roof was still in the shade but soon enough the sun was out and warming those little wings & little body.

Poor little robin was knocked out, in shock, and very slowly recovering. I was so worried that he/she wouldn't make it. But I could see he/she was breathing. But it was such a sad thing to see him/her with closed eyes !

I thought about go grabbing my camera, and get some macro photos done. Just a side note, Pitou (our cat) was indoors, quietly sleeping on the bed, thank goodness. I came back & snatched several ones. Actually, the noise of the shutter closing woke him/her very much. I had my phone in my pocket & was recording a video when all of a sudden .... he/she flew away ! Yes ! It felt like a tiny victory, so much joy of seeing him/her go !

You can see the video here.

Never in my life I had held a bird in my hands, and what a special moment it was, I will always remember it !

Thanks for visiting ! I hope you enjoyed the photos, the little story & its happy ending !

Life lately

I quite will remember November 2016. We've had major plumbing problems, health problems (hubby), car problems, computer major problems ... all have been solved except the computer one (the hard drive imposed !! And I had done no back up .... I let you imagine my despair) ... I'm still waiting for news about the computer though.

We've also been to the (plant) nursery to get some small shrubs to put in the hedges, to replace dead ones. And we also go some plants, and of course you know how happy this has made me since I'd been without a garden for almost 20 years ! I'm trying to go slow, and don't want to over do it though.

Here are some photos from the local nursery we've been to, and where we'll go back many times for sure !!!
