happy equinox

It's that time again, and year after year, I'm getting happier when it arrives : autumn ! Happy autumn equinox (or spring equinox if you're on the other side of the equator !) to you all !

This year it hit me stronger because the subdivision we're part of, is surrounded with orchards, vineyards & pumpkin patches. Yes, pretty much a busy time of year for these right now !

I didn't have to go further than our hedges to pick these :

It makes me a happy girl, it's like I'm living a new life ! I'm currently thinking about what I'd like to bake soon, but these "muffin-shaped-doughtnuts" (or that what they're called in the cook book - basically neither a muffin nor a doughnut LOL), coated in cinnamon/sugar, were a pretty good start !

Autumn always makes me go find my Gooseberry Patch books, even though I have never ever baked or cooked any of their recipes ! Simply browsing their books makes me happy. One day though I'll try to make/bake/cook something from them ! Here's the autumn themed one I have. (there are many others here)

They have free goodies on their website, such as desktop wallpapers. Another wonderful place for being inspired for autumn season (well, any season) is Susan Branch's site ! Here are a couple of links to some of her blog posts, which shall inspire you : herehere . Leaving you here with a saying from Susan Branch's book :

Catch a leaf
in mid-air,
make
a wish,
kiss it &
toss it into
the wind ♥

Have a great end of the week !

week recap : October 9th-16th

This recap will reflect the change of the season. It was 25°C on Monday afternoon, and it was 3,5°C on Friday morning (today). Quite a difference, isn't it ?!

Last weekend we went to the beach ... (we didn't bath, but my youngest & hubby walked in the water & said it wasn't that cold)

But since last week, the flannel fitted sheets were put back, the winter jackets made their reappearance (and they look that they may be too small this year ...), the blankets on the sofa are in full use, and today the heat was turned on at last ! This cold spell may not last for long here, but I do enjoy it anyway !

The birds have felt the cold coming, and are eating all the European nettle tree fruits/drupes they can find. (and these trees are generally generous !). Pitou is cozie than ever, and the clementines/citrus season is making me ridiculously happy & cheerful !

This past week I also introduced a new line of homewares & accessories (if you missed it, it's here).

School (autumn) break starts tonight, and I'm longing to wake up without an alarmn most of the break (execpt the days hubby leaves at 5am for Paris, and the days we'll go on a getaway). But other than that, it should be rather busy. I have lots of things to scratch off my lists, work-wise and homemaking-wise.

Wishing you a lovely & colorful end of your week ! Thanks for stopping by !

October in a nutshell

The weather report is predicting a drop in the temps in a couple of days, and it's legit to say that it was about time ! Summer lingers & lingers & lingers over here, that's nice, but at some point you really look forward chillier temps, rainy & cozy weather, walking in crunchy leaves, wrapping up in a blanket, or layering clothes & accessorizing with a scarf !

All the photos below were taken last year, around the same time of the year.

Celtis australis / European nettle tree / Micocoulier de Provence, which is very generous with its fruits, that the birds adore !

October is a busy month.

Back to school was over a month ago, and school break is now only a couple of days away (every six or seven weeks, in France).

It's also the month I lost my father (on the 21st), this year it has been four years already.

On a lighter note, it's my niece's and my mother in law's birthday month, as well as two other friends, Sadie & Darylynn, hi friends !

It's also a month during which I'm busy making for the shop for the holiday season (shop update coming up tomorrow !). I'm happily making homewares & accessories that can make perfect presents for friends or family or wonderful treats for yourself !

I also start thinking about December & the advent calendar I like to prepare for my boys. (with activities of different kinds, and they're both getting older & older ... I need to renew myself & adapt to their age)

Homemaking speaking, it's also a month of renewal & change. I had to renew a part of my eldest son's wardrobe (13 y-o, wearing man size). It's the moment to switch the summer linens & clothes for warmer ones (though not to warm ones until now). Lots of laundry as a consequence. I've purged my bed linen stash by giving some to my mom & mother in law & by giving away to charity. It felt great. I intend on doing some more purging & downsizing during the school break, if I can manage.

Well, in a nutshell, I'm pretty busy, both hands & mind. But I'm happily busy, I don't glorify the fact of being busy, it's just the way it is, and the rest of the time, I'm happily living a slow life.

Thanks for reading, have a beautiful Tuesday !
