our little piece of heaven

Spring has come and is almost gone over here in southern France ... summer is clearly on his way, and it is completely the opposite as last year (to my own relief !!), when summer had been really really early. (Yuck !) Therefore we actually had a real spring season this year, which was profitable for the garden ! And therefore I am a happy girl because all the flowers and plants I’ve planted or sowed this spring are thriving !

It is our third summer here and I’m beginning to get better at this gardening thing, ahah !! If you remember, we’ve lived in apartments between 1999 & 2016, and our first year here was spent improving the garden first (which I tend to think now that it was a smart move from us because these things take time to create and flourish !). This year more than ever, I have introduced many new flowers in the garden, and they are almost all bloom right now & my heart is ready to burst !  I think that will be a good idea for another post to list all the flowers and plants in the garden !

Pitou is as excited as I am with our garden, it is our little piece of heaven ! He spends part of his days in  the garden, here and there, basking in the sun, listening to the birds, observing insects ...

It is currently one of the best moments of the year for enjoying the garden in all its glory because everything is so lush & blooming and the temps are not awfully hot yet.  Believe me, the both of us are enjoying it thoroughly right now !

The only plant I’m growing for food this year are cherry tomatoes, and this year I didn’t sow them but bought them as tiny plants back in (early) April, and they’ve grown so so much, there are already little green cherry tomatoes !! Exciting !!

The photo below pictures fallen petals from a red geum. I threw them in the air like the natural, biodegradable nature confettis that they are !

June is going to be super busy because both my teens will be having exams, and hubby will be more absent than these last months ... I need to remember to take care of myself as much as I take care of my sons, my hubby and my cat ...

Talk to you soon ! Take care too !
With love,

Sonia ... and Pitou too

birthday & Easter weekend

19blog-geumred1.jpg

Hello everyone. It’s been a couple of weeks ... my my how time flies ! My two teen boys are now on school holidays, and we celebrated my 41st birthday yesterday. Today was Easter but we don’t particularly celebrate (we’re not religious).

The garden is growing rather fast since it is warm but not too much these days (hurray !!) and rather muggy. We’re off to a rainy and very windy week, so I tried to take some precautions in order to avoid damage among my most fragile plants. The two geums (the red on top and the yellow below) are blooming these days and I love them dearly, they’re so lovely !

Pitou loves his garden kingdom as much as I love mine !! Look at him :

after the long awaited rain

We almost didn’t get any rain at all during the last 3 months ... and this time of year, the need of rain is even more necessary because it fills the water stocks for the rest of the year ! So all the rain we finally got this past weekend was long long awaited !

Problem is that we also got hail, several times actually, and I really feared for all the plants in my garden, specially all the ones I bought these last weeks ! But after checking, they were shaken but not damaged, phew !!!

With no major travel this summer by lack of budget, I decided to fill the garden with more flowers after some doing research. We have a local plant nursery that has interesting prices.

I hope to cut branches from the eucalyptus from time to time, for us or for gifting my mom or mother in law, saving us money from the florist, useless waste (from the florist) and money as well !

I hope you are all doing well. Spring is such a busy time of year for everyone. Some of you must be on spring break. Ours will start in a couple of week. Wishing you all a wonderful start to the week !
